- Demonstration
Its origin goes back to the 14th century: the religious would then walk up Saint Aubert Mount as a pilgrimage to expiate their sins.
Later on, children would run up the slope. Once at the top, they woud cut branches from the nearby woodlands, turn them into sticks and enjoy pretend fights.
This tradition still exists: the locals join a (6, 12 or 20 km) walk up every easter Monday, each at their own pace. The mount, 147 m high, offers a nice reward to the hikers as it overlooks the Escaut valley and the town of Tournai, with its cathedral and 5 tower bells.
