In the 16th century, the Inquisition led to macralle (witch in Walloon) trials in Ermeton. The city replays this sad page of history with a touch of humour to highlight how cruel these were. The judgment often comes with a surprise...
History
In the 16th century, Ermeton loived through 4 witch trials. The inquisition hunted them mercilessly. All it took was a denunciation, often pure invention, to become suspect, and therefore called a “macral” or “witch”.
Since 1998, Ermeton has been revisiting this sad period of history through a folkloric reconstruction. The only ambition is fun: a play where morality wins. The judgment is, however, completely unpredictable.
