Commissariat Général au Tourisme (CGT)
The Commissariat général au Tourisme (CGT) of the Ministry of Walloon Region is responsible for all the regulations on tourism in French-speaking Walloon Region. The "Rural and Farm Tourism" Department oversees implementation of the new decree of 18 December 2003 governing tourist accommodations of the Walloon Government execution order of 9 December 2004
In addition to providing assistance and advice, its missions include:
AUTHORISING the use of the following protected designations:
•Rural gite: furnished accommodation fitted out in a rural building situated in a rural environment. Find a Rural Lodging.
•Farm gite furnished accommodation fitted out in a building situated on a farm. Find a Farm Cottage.
•Furnished holiday accommodation: furnished accommodation consisting of a chalet, bungalow, villa or flat or apartment. Find Furnished Accommodation.
•Guest room: furnished room in the owner’s home. Find a Guest Room.
3 new designations:
•City gite : situated in an urban environment.
•Farm guest room: situated on a farm.
•Guest house and Farm guest house: group of 4 or 5 guest rooms or farm guest rooms.
2 new qualifications:
•Microgîte: maximum 4 persons and only one living room (no separate bedroom).
•Large capacity gite: more than 15 persons.
The authorisation means that the accommodation has been inspected and that it meets the relevant standards. The authorisation establishes the capacity of the accommodation. This capacity comes before the detailed description..
Classification of Tourist accommodations and Furnished Holiday Accommodations from 1 to 4 ears or from 1 to 4 keys. The classification sets a comfort rating designed to help tourists to choose a category to suit them; the accommodation has to fulfil assessment criteria and/or conform to certain points. A new classification scale has come into force since 1 January 2006. The label "NN" will help you to find the accommodation meeting those new norms.
CONTROLLING THE QUALITY of the accommodations: a periodic inspection allows the classification of the accommodation to be maintained or even upgraded or, if necessary, downgraded.
HANDLING COMPLAINTS: if any accommodation fails to meet any of a tourist’s expectations with regard to the quality, comfort and conveniences established by the awarded classification, an inspection will be arranged in order to rectify the situation and take the necessary measures.

Ministry of the German-speaking Community
The German-speaking Community is located at the East end of the province of Liège. It includes nine towns: Kelmis, Eupen, Lontzen, Raeren, Bütgenbach, Büllingen, Amel, Sankt Vith and Burg Reuland.
Within the Ministry of the German-speaking Community, the Directorate for Cultural Affairs is responsible for Tourism. As for holiday apartments (Ferienwohnung – gemeubileerde vakantiewoning – holiday apartment), only entities overseen by the Ministry for the German-speaking Community are entitled to use the appellation protected by the Community’s Decree of 20 november 1992. A sign at the entry of the furnished accommodation is a guarantee for the tourist that it has been inspected.
The classification of holiday apartments into categories, from 1 to 4 ears, is done by Decree from the German-speaking government from 20 May 2006. This classification strongly conforms to the norms established by the Commissariat Général au Tourisme of the Walloon Region. The classification of the accommodation takes into account the quality of the accommodation’s location, the impression of the whole, the fitting-out, the material, and the interior decoration. Possible complaints or remarks are dealt with by the Ministry. We wish you a pleasant stay in our hospitable region!
