On the programme: representatives from every state of Brazil will show the countless facets of the Brazilian carnival, which is different in every part of the country. Another characteristic of this edition: we go back to the roots with a typical ball where all participants are dressed up. The purpose here is to show the importance of football in the Brazilian culture. In Brazil, carnival has always been a noble way to discuss current, historical or international topics. As the 2010 World Cup is coming up, it is more than normal to highlight football this year! |

16/02/2012›21/02/2012 : CARNIVAL IN EAST BELGIUM (EUPEN) © OPT / JL Flemal These festivities start with the Kappensitzung, (preliminary carnival sessions) and the Thursday of women (preceding the "gras days") which will signal the beginning of the happy events as well as the commencement of the Prince Carnival's power over the town (following him being presented with the keys to the town). The grand procession takes place mainly over Monday Gras and is also known as "Rosenmontag" or "Lundi des Roses", (Rose Monday), (where, according to tradition, paper roses are strewn along the route of the procession). The float of Prince Carnival, Master of Ceremonies, is the main feature of the parade. The festival ends on Mardi Gras when Prince Carnival returns the keys of the town to the proper local authorities. |
